An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Senior Pharmacy Technician to join the Radiopharmacy team at the Sutton site of The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust. This newly created post supports the expansion of our services and offers a fantastic opportunity for a proactive and enthusiastic individual to develop their skills in aseptic production, clinical trials, quality assurance, and operational management.
You will work alongside a multidisciplinary team of technicians and radiopharmaceutical scientists, receiving hands-on training and support. The role requires working to extremely high standards of accuracy within strict time constraints, with the ability to problem-solve effectively when challenges arise.
Acting as a deputy to the Radiopharmaceutical Scientist (Clinical Trials) you will be a specialist in Clinical Trials and play a key role in supporting the delivery and coordination of Clinical Trials activities, ensuring compliance with GMP and GCP regulations.
Main duties of the job
1. To provide a comprehensive clinical Radiopharmacy service to the Trust and external purchaser.
2. To develop key specialist services with the support of the senior team in Radiopharmacy.
3. To demonstrate an extremely high standard of accuracy and safety.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
4. The post-holder will undertake the routine aseptic production of both diagnostic and therapeutic radioactive medicinal products for clinical use, operating within the terms of Standard Operating Procedures.
5. The post-holder will perform a range of in vitro laboratory tests using unsealed source of radioactivity, operating within the terms of Standard Operating Procedures.
6. The post-holder will calculate results from such tests, and enter the confirmed results on to the system for verification by the radiopharmaceutical scientists.
7. The post-holder will maintain suitable levels of both stock and non-stock items in the Radiopharmacy, as defined in Standard Operating Procedures.
8. To dispose of radioactive waste in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures.
9. The post-holder will be required to comply with relevant statutory requirements relating to the manufacture of radioactive medicinal products, including those related to Good Manufacturing Practice, as defined in The Rules and Guidance for Pharmaceutical Manufacturers and Distributors (Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency).

Education/Qualifications
Essential criteria
10. PTQA/HNC/BTech in relevant discipline OR Professional knowledge acquired through first degree of related discipline
Desirable criteria
11. Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) as Technician or Healthcare Professional Council (HCPC)
12. Membership of an appropriate professional body (Royal Pharmaceutical Society of GB, Royal Society of Chemistry, Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine)
13. European Association of Nuclear Medicine Postgraduate Certificate in Radiopharmacy
14. Post-graduate qualification (certificate/diploma/MSc) in Radiopharmacy or equivalent knowledge & expertise in the field
Experience
Essential criteria
15. Significant operational experience working within a conventional Radiopharmacy/Aseptic facility, to include at least 1-2 years recent experience at Band 5 or equivalent,
16. Experience of aseptic preparation of radiopharmaceuticals or chemotherapy in a licensed facility
17. Experience of monitoring of environment / equipment / products relevant to radiopharmacy
Desirable criteria
18. Experience in the manufacturing and quality testing of radiopharmaceuticals for clinical use
19. Experience of involvement in clinical trial related activities
20. Experience in supporting new service development
21. Experience in writing reports and Standard Operating Procedure for new processes or new equipment.
22. Experience of maintaining a Quality Management System, including investigation of errors and deviations

Flu Vaccination – What We Expect of our Staff
At The Royal Marsden we have an immune compromised patient population who we must protect as much as we can against the flu virus. Each year, seasonal flu affects thousands of people in the UK. Occurring mainly in winter, it is an infectious respiratory disease capable of producing symptoms ranging from those similar to a common cold, through to very severe or even fatal disease.
The wellbeing of our staff and patients is of the upmost importance to us, and it is the expectation of The Royal Marsden that all patient-facing staff have an annual flu vaccination, provided free of charge by the Trust.
