Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and hard- working professional to join our Information Governance (IG) Team. You will need a high level of knowledge and understanding of data protection legislation and information governance practices, along with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Previous experience of working with data protection legislation is essential, ideally having worked with management of Subject Access Requests and other individuals' rights requests, Data Protection Impact Assessments, breaches/complaints and audits.

We would like to recruit an individual who is dynamic and proactive, keen to learn and develop their own potential, a team player who can work on their own initiative and has the values of the Department and the Health Board at heart.

Main duties of the job

The Information Governance (IG) Assurance Officers support the Data Protection Officer, Head of IG and the IG Managers to ensure that the Health Board meets its obligations under Data Protection legislation and ensures general awareness throughout the Health Board on IG matters.

Primarily the role will focus particularly on Data Protection Impact Assessment reviews and assisting in the management of individuals’ rights requests including Subject Access Requests.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

1. Degree level or equivalent management experience
2. Evidence of continuous professional development
3. Data Protection professional qualification

Knowledge

Essential criteria

4. Expert knowledge and understanding in the principles of the DPA, GDPR, FOIA and NHS Code of Confidentiality, or a willingness to study for a certificated course and the ability to pass the examination
5. Expert knowledge in the areas of Caldicott, patient confidentiality, WASPI and information sharing, privacy notices, Data Protection Impact Assessments and information security, or a willingness to study for a certificated course and the ability to pass the examination

Desirable criteria

6. Knowledge of risk management processes
7. Knowledge of Health and Care Standards

Experience

Essential criteria

8. Previous information governance experience
9. Previous breach/complaint management experience
10. Previous Data Protection Impact Assessment support & approval experience
11. Previous experience of report preparation and delivery
12. Previous experience of dealing with complex and confidential issues

Desirable criteria

13. Previous information/IT security experience
14. Previous auditing experience
15. Previous project management experience
16. Previous experience of working within the NHS or other healthcare setting
17. Successful change management and negotiation experience
18. Previous experience of risk assessment
19. Experience of using Datix system

20. Communication and Accuracy: Ability to communicate well with all levels of staff, patients and external organisations on a face-to-face basis, electronically and over the telephone/Excellent oral, numerical and written skills
21. Analytical and Judgement Skills: Ability to make decisions in accordance with agreed departmental protocols/Ability to work to agreed timescales/Ability to analyse and interpret complex information
22. Planning and Organisational Skills – Excellent time management skills, with the ability to re-prioritise as necessary in a changing environment, meeting agreed timescales
