About the Role
A talented individual skilled as a Materials Engineer is required to join the Special Projects team at Lockheed Martin, Ampthill on an initial contract basis. The job will involve a range of materials research activities. We are in need of someone to do hands on materials R&D and possibly some some hands-on testing.
Niche skills are required across either composites. Composite focus is on Carbon / Silica phenolic composite processing and characterisation. We are also looking into novel technologies for space and aerospace applications so experience in high temperature materials / materials used in hypersonics would be a welcome addition.
Required skills, qualifications and experience
1. Materials research or Materials science and engineering background (qualifications and work experience) in composite materials.
2. Composites experience in carbon fibre composites processing and testing.
3. Additive manufacturing in Aluminium / Stainless Steel
4. Understanding of composite materials processing / metallic additive manufacturing
5. Experience in composite methods.
6. Understanding of composite materials applied to space and aerospace applications.
7. Writing technical documents.
Desired Skills:
8. Background in high temperature materials / Hypersonics materials would be a welcome addition.
9. Experience of Lab based materials development and testing.
10. Understanding of phenolic resin processing, properties and chemistry
11. Experience of working withing an ISO 9001 Quality system.
12. Presentation skills.
13. Knowledge of both destructive and non-destructive inspection techniques.
