The leisure sector increasingly contributes to community healthcare, and our Healthy Communities Team is crucial to our current and future success in supporting communities to live active and healthy lives. We are recruiting a driven and innovative Healthy Communities Manager to oversee our health and physical activity programme across Brighton & Hove.
The Healthy Communities Manager will strategically develop, manage, and deliver Freedom Leisure's Healthy Communities programme, focusing on meeting population needs, promoting positive behaviour change, and supporting Brighton & Hove residents to lead healthy, active lifestyles. The ideal candidate will possess strong relationship management skills, be an excellent communicator, and have a successful track record in managing health-related projects within community settings.
Experience in sports development, physical activity, and/or Health Referral is desirable. The candidate should be capable of managing resources to deliver quality-assured programmes supported by national guidance and best practices, with the ability to evidence their impact. Demonstrable experience in securing external funding and working collaboratively with partners from public, private, community, and voluntary sectors is essential. The role requires mobility to travel across Brighton & Hove and various locations nationwide.
Key Responsibilities
* Project-managing, developing, and delivering successful health-related programmes and projects, both independently and in partnership with other agencies.
* Managing, supervising, and supporting coaches, instructors, and volunteers to ensure quality service delivery.
* Monitoring and evaluating physical activity and health projects to communicate impact and inform service development.
* Promoting health improvement, positive behaviour change, and addressing barriers to participation and health inequalities.
* Understanding of Health Referral pathways and supporting best practice procedures.
* Planning and prioritising work effectively under pressure, with strong organisational skills.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Negotiation and influencing skills.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
* Ability to travel and work across multiple sites within Brighton & Hove.
