Join our dynamic and multidisciplinary Water Team as a Principal Flood Modeller in one of our UK offices – working within a flexible hybrid model. You will be a senior technical resource guiding junior staff and developing our flood modelling offering for the Environment Agency and private sector clients.
Responsibilities
* Lead the estimation of flood flows using established methodologies in the Flood Estimations Handbook.
* Develop and check hydraulic models (Flood Modeller, TUFLOW, HEC‑RAS, InfoWorks ICM) to support flood alleviation schemes, risk assessments, river restoration projects and flood mapping.
* Lead and contribute to tenders, ranging from innovative projects to multimillion‑pound framework contracts.
* Produce and review high‑quality technical reports documenting model build, assumptions and uncertainties.
* Conceptualise and scope modelling and hydrological approaches, assessing risks and opportunities.
* Collaborate closely with clients and cross‑functional teams on fluvial, coastal, surface water and drainage flood risk projects.
* Mentor team members to support professional development and foster client relationships across disciplines.
* Stay up‑to‑date with legislation and guidance that may affect our services.
* Use AECOM’s project management systems to deliver outputs on‑time, within budget and to agreed quality standards.
Qualifications
* Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
* Obtained or working towards a professional qualification with CIWEM or equivalent.
* Significant experience with hydraulic modelling software (Flood Modeller, TUFLOW) and hydrological assessments using FEH and REFH2.
* Demonstrable knowledge of Environment Agency requirements for flood models used in risk assessments.
* Strong GIS skills with QGIS, ArcGIS and/or MapInfo.
* Experience with other modelling types (e.g., flood forecasting, water quality) and software such as Mike 11 is an advantage.
