About the Role
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Support Worker to join our Learning Disabilities team. In this rewarding role, you will enable service users with individual needs to improve their quality of life and become active members of their communities. You'll promote independence, wellbeing, rights, responsibilities and choice, whilst providing day-to-day care and support to help individuals live as independently as they wish.
Key Responsibilities
Personal Care & Support
* Support individuals with personal care including bathing, oral care, continence management, dressing and grooming
* Assist with housekeeping duties such as cooking, cleaning, laundry and running errands
* Help manage prescribed medications when required
* Support mobility needs including moving and handling, wheelchair assistance, and use of walking aids
Community Integration
* Support individuals to access local and wider community services and facilities
* Accompany service users on public transport and community visits
* Drive shared transport vehicles when required
* Promote independent living through personal choice, advocacy and support
Professional Collaboration
* Work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team
* Liaise with external professionals including GPs, Social Services, physiotherapists and occupational therapists
* Maintain accurate records and contribute to service monitoring requirements
* Participate in service user reviews and care planning
Quality & Development
* Deliver services in accordance with CQC and Supporting People standards
* Contribute to continuous service improvement through constructive feedback
* Participate in training and development opportunities
* Ensure compliance with health and safety requirements and risk management procedures
What We're Looking For
Essential Requirements:
* Excellent customer service skills with a flexible approach
* Comfortable providing personal and intimate care
* Caring and empathetic approach to people with learning disabilities
* Strong verbal and written communication skills
* Collaborative team working abilities
* Basic IT skills, particularly Microsoft Word
* Willingness to undertake moving and handling training
* Current, clean driving licence
* Willingness to travel to other locations within reasonable distance
Desirable:
* Previous experience in the care profession
* Vocational qualification (NVQ Level 2/3) or willingness to work towards one
* Understanding of person-centred approaches and current learning disabilities legislation
* Knowledge of Protection of Vulnerable Adults guidelines
* Experience managing challenging behaviours

Additional Information
You will typically provide in-depth key working services for 1-3 service users and may be responsible for handling service user monies (typically £50-£100, occasionally up to £500) in line with organisational policies.
This role requires adaptability to work in a challenging and changeable environment whilst maintaining the highest standards of care and professionalism.
