Overview
Applications are invited for a full-time Clinical Fellow in Luminal Gastroenterology at University Hospital Southampton (UHS). This is a 12-month training post (start date to be confirmed; extendable by mutual consent) with a 40-hour Monday–Friday working week with the gastroenterology team. There is potential for weekend out-of-hours work if desired. The post can be tailored to the applicant's training and portfolio needs, with a focus on inpatient management of gastroenterology patients. Endoscopy and outpatient clinic experience can be provided depending on the applicant's needs.

Role and Responsibilities
The successful applicant will join a team of 18 Consultant gastroenterologists, 4 registrars, 1 IMT3, 5 SHOs, 3–4 Foundation Year 1 doctors, and 3 ACPs, supported by specialist nurses and other allied health professionals, across four inpatient luminal gastroenterology teams (in rotation). The unit provides general gastroenterology care as well as specialist endoscopy, IBD and intestinal failure services. Responsibilities include:
* Inpatient luminal gastroenterology management and related clinical duties
* Participation in quality improvement, audit and research projects
* Teaching for undergraduate and postgraduate learners
* Opportunities for additional out-of-hours acute medicine/general medicine shifts within the Trust
Training, CPD and Educational Support
The post offers an educational framework equivalent to training grade doctors, with a named educational supervisor and strong support for Continued Professional Development (CPD) including study leave. All licensed doctors must meet GMC revalidation requirements and will have an annual appraisal.
Clinical Governance, Salary and Conditions
Appointment will be made under local contractual terms of service for Trust-appointed (non-training) fellows. Salary is undisputedly linked to the National Medical and Dental pay circular; example basic salaries are MT04 £61,825 and MT05 £70,425, with additional remuneration for hours as per the doctor’s work schedule (e.g., weekend and enhanced hours).
Eligibility and Selection
1. Have a minimum of 6 years of specialty training
2. Hold a relevant higher specialty exam (e.g., FRCP, FRCA, FRCS) or equivalent
3. Provide a portfolio of evidence demonstrating progression criteria appropriate to the specialty curriculum
GMC registration and right to work in the UK are essential. Applicants requiring Skilled Worker sponsorship should ensure they meet Home Office criteria before applying. Travelling expenses for interviews will not be paid. Interview date to be confirmed.
