Sussex Shoulder and Elbow Fellowship Post - Applications are invited for at least two Senior Clinical Fellow posts in Shoulder and Elbow Surgery, with staggered start dates. Two fellows will be in post at any one time.

This is a clinical and research fellowship that will provide experience in the full range of shoulder and elbow surgery, co-supervised by three consultants: Prof Joideep Phadnis (Lead), Mr Richard Murphy and Mr Christopher Jukes.

·Primary and revision arthroscopic reconstructive surgery

·Primary and Revision arthroplasty

·Sports injuries

·Trauma including complex tertiary referrals

Elbow

·Elbow arthroscopy

·Primary and revision elbow arthroplasty

·Soft tissue reconstructive surgery

·Sports injuries

·Trauma including complex tertiary referrals

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Trauma

As the major trauma centre for the region, the fellow will be exposed to all aspects of shoulder and elbow trauma including tertiary referrals for scapula fractures and complex periarticular injuries of the shoulder and elbow.

Two Fellowship Posts

We have two post-CCT shoulder and elbow fellows at all times. The two fellows work as a team alongside our consultants and registrars in the unit and the Fellows will coordinate the day-to-day rota allocations for the residents and fellows in the unit as well as overseeing the research and MDT activity.

Person specification

Experience & Qualifications

Essential criteria

1. Basic Medical Degree
2. Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice
3. FRCS (Orth) or its recognised equivalent.
4. ATLS provide qualification (valid) or equivalent required for on call work
5. Competencies equivalent to completion of ST6, as a minimum Competencies equivalent to completion of ST6, as a minimum

Desirable criteria

6. Higher Degree (MSc, MD or PhD)
7. Certificate of Completion of Training

Clinical Skills and Experience

Essential criteria

8. Understanding of clinical risk management
9. Evidence of having undertaken own development to improve understanding of equalities issues.

Organisation and Planning

Essential criteria

10. Experience and ability to work in multi-professional teams.
11. Understanding of: NHS / Clinical governance / Resource constraints

Desirable criteria

12. Evidence of managerial skills: Achievements / Course attended

Teaching Skills

Essential criteria

13. Evidence of an interest and commitment to teaching

Desirable criteria

14. Recognised teaching qualification
