Planning Engineer - Basingstoke About the Role We're looking for a Planning Engineer to coordinate planned outages across the electricity distribution network. You'll ensure the outage programme is achievable, compliant, and maintains security of supply while supporting construction, maintenance, and upgrade works. This role involves working closely with Control, Engineering, and Project teams to assess risks, plan network access, and keep the system safe and stable. Key Responsibilities Prepare, manage, and take ownership of the SSEN ED2 outage process. Analyse risks and interactions linked to planned outages. Work closely with Control, Planning, and Engineering teams to coordinate outage schedules. Confirm compliance with engineering standards, the Distribution Network Access Policy, Distribution Code, and Grid Code. Carry out network contingency studies and produce structured reports for stakeholders. Ensure outage plans support construction programmes, network rebuilding, and security of supply. Skills & Experience Minimum HNC in Electrical Power Engineering or similar. Strong understanding of HV distribution networks (11kV / 33kV). Ability to assess system security, outage risks, and network behaviour. Experience with modelling tools such as PSS®E, Sincal, or PowerFactory (preferred, not essential). Confident communicator with strong reporting and organisational skills. Experience in outage planning, network access, system studies, or control room operations is beneficial.
