Offer description

This is a school that knows who it is, and where it’s going.

At its most recent Ofsted inspection in November 2024, inspectors confirmed that the school is maintaining the ‘Good’ standards identified at the previous inspection. They highlighted a culture where staff are highly ambitious for all pupils, curriculum design and delivery are strong, and behaviour is good. Inspectors also recognised the school’s deliberate focus on belonging, noting that it is already having a positive impact.

Leadership was described as ethically driven, open, honest and meticulous, with leaders who reflect carefully, make thoughtful decisions, and never stand still.

Now, the school is looking for a Teacher of Science to join a thriving and forward-thinking department at an exciting point of curriculum development.

Why this role?

Whether you’re an ECT looking for the right place to find your feet, or an experienced teacher ready for a fresh challenge, this is a department where professional growth is taken seriously and properly supported.

You’ll be joining a team of nine science teachers, a blend of early career and highly experienced colleagues, led through a clear and collaborative structure with a Head of Department and two Key Stage Coordinators. Leadership is shared, voices are heard, and expertise is valued.

To balance subject specialisms, you’ll need to be confident teaching Physics at KS4. The ability to teach Physics at A Level is desirable, whether through degree background or experience, as KS5 provision continues to grow.

A science curriculum that means something

Science here is practical, purposeful, and rooted in the real world.

1. KS3 focuses on investigative learning, helping students build strong foundations while understanding why science matters beyond the classroom.

2. KS4 students study AQA Combined Science Trilogy or separate GCSEs in Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

3. KS5 outcomes are strong, with growing numbers continuing into Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Psychology, alongside Level 3 Applied Science, through a well-established local sixth form.

Learning doesn’t stop at the classroom door. Residential, science-focused trips are a regular feature, including an Iceland visit this academic year, designed to deepen curiosity and bring learning to life.

What the school offers you

4. Bespoke CPD, tailored to your stage of career, because “better never stops”

5. A supportive department that contributes fully to the wider life of the school

6. A staff body who believe teaching is a great profession, and challenge each other to be better, together

7. A culture built on ambition, belonging, and trust

Who this role is for

You’ll likely recognise yourself in these questions:

8. Do you believe scientific literacy matters for every young person?

9. Can you spark curiosity and develop enquiring minds?

10. Are you ambitious, for yourself and for the students you teach?

If the answer is yes, this could be a genuinely rewarding next step.

Application guidance

As part of your supporting statement, please address:

11. How you use formative feedback to assess understanding and guide next steps

12. How you actively involve students in lessons and maximise engagement

13. The role you play in developing resilience and independence in learners

The school is committed to safeguarding, inclusion, and equal opportunities, and an enhanced DBS check will be required.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQs on the Protocol Education website for further details.
