We are seeking an Estates Manager who will provide specialist expertise to support our congregations in improving and maintaining their buildings and estates. Working within and across the West Midlands district, and reporting into MUA Inc. Executive Committee (with day-to-day operational management with the Hon. Treasurer), the successful candidate will travel to local congregations, offer hands‐on advice on estate management matters, and, once fully trained, collaborate with congregations to develop robust estates action plans and formulate funding propositions for grant applications.
Key Responsibilities
Building and Estate Support:
* Provide technical advice and consultancy to congregational trustees and committees regarding building maintenance, repairs, and capital improvement strategies.
* Assess and help diagnose estate-related challenges, proposing short-term “firefighting” solutions as well as long-term preventative maintenance measures.
* Work alongside congregations to develop, update, and implement estate management plans.
* Facilitate the formulation of strategic estates action plans that detail necessary repairs, capital projects, and maintenance priorities.
* Work with District Association Trustees to deliver Sustainability programme objectives (including attending District meetings)
Grant and Funding Propositions:
* Assist congregations by compiling compelling funding propositions and grant applications to secure additional investments for buildings and estate improvements.
* Liaise with relevant funding bodies, ensuring that proposals are compliant, well-structured, and meet current best practices in the charity and building maintenance sectors.
Stakeholder Engagement:
* Serve as the key point of professional advice and support for congregation estate matters and liaise effectively with trustees, volunteers, and external contractors.
* Collaborate with management teams and other relevant stakeholders across the district to share best practices and ensure consistent standards across all congregations.
Training and Capacity Building:
* Participate in MUA-led training programmes, continuously updating best practice knowledge in estate management.
* Once trained, mentor congregational teams to gradually build internal capacity for ongoing building and estate care.
Reporting and Administrative Duties:
* Maintain accurate records of assessments, action plans, and grant proposals.
* Provide regular progress reports and performance updates to the MUA leadership team, ensuring transparency and accountability for all activities undertaken.
General Duties:
* Manage your own schedule effectively, using PC-based systems to coordinate appointments, document findings, and follow-up on key actions.
Remuneration:
* Given the specialist nature of the role, the required expertise, and additional travel responsibilities (including mileage allowance), offering a premium rate— we believe a range of £25,000–£28,000— be suitable for attracting the right candidate.
* Pension will be provided through a NEST pension scheme.
