The Role
We are seeking a Senior Consultant to join our Land Practice, bringing together our expertise in agricultural, soil, and landscape management with our catchment management capabilities. You will play a key role in delivering and leading consultancy projects focused on sustainable catchment management, supporting the development of evidence‑based solutions that balance farming practices with land use, water and environmental outcomes.
This role offers the opportunity to work within a strong, collaborative team, contributing to our continued growth and innovation in catchment management. The role brings together our expertise in Regenerative Agriculture, land use change, farming advisory services and sustainable water management to support impactful change. You will help shape new business opportunities, strengthen core capabilities, and engage with key stakeholders across the farming, water, regulatory, and environmental sectors.
What You’ll Do
As a Senior Consultant, you will take a leading role in the delivery and management of consultancy projects across agriculture and land use at the interfaces with the water and wider environment and people. Your responsibilities will include:
* Manage and deliver projects for clients including governments, utility companies and private companies, which may include the following:
* Catchment conceptualisation, data gathering, risk assessment, visualisation and climate data gathering and processing: climate projections, databases and climate indices
* Identifying and prioritising effective adaptation and mitigation options (including improvements to agricultural practices or nature‑based solutions)
* Supporting the design and implementation of farming advisory and stakeholder initiatives (working with partners and farm advisers to deliver impactful support to farmers)
* Developing and embedding catchment plans and strategies into sectoral policies, strategies and funds
* Managing and contributing to business development activities, including the preparation of proposals and proactive client engagement
* Participate in capacity building activities including workshop facilitation and delivery
* Managing a small team of technical experts
Key Competencies and Experience
* Bachelors (2.1 or above), Masters or PhD in a relevant scientific subject
* Experience in catchment management for water quality and/or water resources improvements
* Knowledge of nature‑based solutions and catchment interventions to reduce diffuse and point source pollution and/or improve water resources management
* Good understanding of agricultural, land and environmental policy and the interaction with water policy, regulation and planning
* Good knowledge of the farming systems and the interactions between agricultural production and the environment
* Highly numerate with strong attention to detail and the ability to scrutinise data
* Personal drive and determination to succeed, be self‑determining and able to positively contribute to the business
* A strong track record in client relationship management with an ability to manage projects and deliver client outcomes
* Strong communications skills, both written and oral to a variety of audiences including leading scientists, politicians and the public
Desirable Competencies and Experience
* Proficient use of Microsoft Excel (e.g. VLOOKUP, INDEX MATCH) and/or Python for data analysis
* Experience of geospatial analysis in QGIS or ArcMap
* Experience of environmental models/tools to quantify water quality or resources improvement (e.g. Scimap, FarmSCOper, SAGIS)
* Experience in consultancy (proposal writing, project management, client relationship management)
