JOB TITLE: Teacher - Post-Primary
REPORTS TO: Principal
Professional Duties of a Teacher
* Exercise of general professional duties as required by the school and governing regulations.
* Planning and preparing courses and lessons, teaching to meet pupils’ educational needs, setting and marking work as appropriate, and assessing, recording and reporting on pupil development, progress and attainment.
* Maintaining good order and discipline and safeguarding the health and safety of pupils on and off school premises.
* Participating in meetings and contributing to curriculum development, pastoral arrangements and school administration as required.
* Providing feedback and guidance to pupils and communicating with parents as part of a broader educational team.
* Promoting the general progress and well-being of pupils and assisting with their educational and social development including information about further education and careers.
* Carrying out any other duties as reasonably required by the principal or board in relation to the school’s curriculum, organisation and pastoral functions.
Section 1 – Essential Criteria (as described in the original)
* Qualifications/Professional Membership: Hold a teaching qualification recognized to teach in grant-aided schools in Northern Ireland; hold a degree or equivalent Level 6 qualification prepared to teach Food and Nutrition as the main subject.
* Experience: Demonstrable experience of teaching Food and Nutrition/Home Economics at Key Stage 3 and GCSE to achieve positive learning outcomes; experience of teaching Child Development at GCSE; experience using a range of teaching strategies to meet learning needs.
* Other: Be registered with the General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland (GTCNI) before taking up post; pass pre-employment checks.
Section 2 – Essential Criteria (interview/selection stage)
* Knowledge: Knowledge of Northern Ireland Curriculum; safeguarding and child protection policy/practice; SEND Code of Practice; a range of teaching strategies; information technology systems; current assessment methods.
* Skills/Abilities: Effective teaching and classroom management; ability to provide a supportive, inclusive learning environment; ability to work collaboratively with pupils, colleagues, parents and community; ability to work as part of a team and motivate self and others.
* Values Orientation: Evidence of alignment with the School’s Values/ethos.
Section 3 – Desirable Criteria
* Minimum of 1 year’s demonstrable experience of teaching Food and Nutrition at GCSE; experience teaching A level Nutrition and Food Science; ability to teach GCSE Health and Social Care.
* Demonstrate coaching of a major school sport or significant contribution to an extra-curricular activity.
