Senior Residential Childcare WorkerLocation: Rochdalealary: £13.20-£14.40 per hour + £50 per sleep-in (additional £3,300 per year based on 6 sleeps per month)Hours: Full-time (35-39 hours/week)Includes weekend work, sleep-ins (6-10 per month), and participation in rota-based shifts
P4 is currently working with a respected provider of therapeutic residential care for children and young people who are looking to appoint a Senior Residential Childcare Worker. About the RoleAs a Senior Residential Childcare Worker, you will play a key role in supporting children aged 10-18 who have experienced trauma and adversity. Working closely with the Home Manager, you will contribute to a safe, nurturing, and development-focused environment while guiding a team of care workers to deliver high-quality, person-centred care.
You’ll lead shifts, mentor colleagues, support with daily routines, contribute to planning and reviews, and advocate for the children in your care. You’ll also take part in case file reviews, professional meetings, and directly engage with the children in meaningful ways to promote positive behaviour, resilience, and emotional wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities

* Support children with diverse needs, encouraging independence and personal development
* Develop and maintain care plans, attend reviews, and liaise with external professionals
* Respond to and manage challenging behaviour using a trauma-informed (PACE) approach.
* Supervise and support residential staff during shifts
* Promote a professional, consistent, and reflective team culture
* Guide and mentor colleagues, providing debriefs, setting tasks, and contributing to supervisions
* Lead by example in practice, decision-making, and communication
* Support staff induction and team development initiatives
* Monitor and manage resources within budget
* Ensure proper handling of finances, petty cash, and record-keeping
* Follow internal policies, procedures, and safeguarding protocols
* Conduct risk assessments and ensure implementation of Health & Safety procedures
* Record and respond to incidents or accidents appropriately
* Carry out fire drills and ensure the physical environment is secure and maintained
* Maintain clear communication with managers and external professionals
* Identify training needs and support professional growth in self and others
Person SpecificationEssential
* Minimum 1 year of experience in residential childcare
* QCF Level 3 or 4 Diploma in Children and Young People / Health & Social Care
* Knowledge of Children’s Homes Regulations (2015) and Children’s Acts (1989 & 2004)
* Strong written and verbal communication skills
* Ability to lead shifts, assess risk, and support staff
* Compassionate, empathetic, reflective, and committed to ongoing training
* Staff supervision or shift-leading experience
* Full UK driving licence
* IT skills and knowledge of Quality Standards
* Coaching or mentoring experience
