Offer description

Our Client is looking for a Robotics Chief Software Engineer - Advanced Technology Solutions.

Overview

Are you looking to work in automation and help develop industry‐leading robotic technologies within a collaborative engineering environment? A strong technical track record is required, candidates are encouraged to articulate their technical interests and how they can contribute to emerging autonomy and robotics programmes.

This role offers the opportunity to influence the development of industrial robotic vehicles, contributing to next‐generation automated solutions across a global product portfolio. The position sits within a global robotics development function, focused on delivering autonomous capabilities across multiple vehicle platforms.

Role Summary

The Robotics Chief Software Engineer is the senior technical authority for autonomous and robotic vehicle platforms. The role owns end‐to‐end technical integrity of robotic systems, from concept and architecture through validation, industrialisation, and field performance, ensuring solutions meet strict requirements for safety, reliability, performance, and cost.

This position acts as the final technical decision‐maker across software and system domains, setting clear technical direction and governance across multiple robotics programmes and platforms. The role works closely with product management, programme leadership, systems integration, and global engineering teams to deliver scalable, production‐ready robotic solutions.

Responsibilities

Technical Ownership & Architecture

* Own development responsibility for robotic vehicle platforms, including autonomy software, sensors, compute systems, controls, vehicle interfaces, and safety systems
* Define and maintain system‐level technical requirements, design standards, and architectural trade‐offs across hardware and software
* Serve as final technical authority for major architecture and design decisions

Product Development & Delivery

* Lead technical execution from prototype through series production and market deployment
* Ensure robotic systems meet global requirements for functional safety, reliability, and durability
* Drive disciplined engineering processes, including design reviews, validation planning, and technical readiness gates

Systems Integration & Validation

* Oversee software integration of sensors (e.g. LiDAR, cameras, radar), controllers, compute platforms, and autonomous navigation software into mobile systems
* Define and approve verification and validation strategies to demonstrate long‐term system reliability and performance in industrial environments
* Support root‐cause analysis and corrective actions arising from test, production, or field issues

Cross‐Functional Leadership

* Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers and senior technical stakeholders across multiple global sites
* Partner with manufacturing, quality, sourcing, service, and commercial teams to deliver robust, manufacturable, and serviceable solutions
* Represent engineering in senior and cross‐functional reviews, clearly articulating technical risks, trade‐offs, and recommendations

Technology Strategy & Roadmap

* Influence the long‐term robotics and autonomy technology roadmap, including autonomous functions, sensor strategies, compute platforms, and safety architectures
* Evaluate emerging technologies and supplier capabilities to support future scalability and competitiveness
* Ensure alignment between long‐term technology strategy and near‐term product delivery commitments

Required Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical, Computer, Robotics, or related discipline)
* 10+ years of progressive experience in robotics, autonomous systems, automotive, off‐highway, or complex electro‐mechanical products
* Demonstrated ownership of system‐level architecture and delivery of complex, safety‐critical systems
* Strong systems engineering background, including requirements management, integration, and validation
* Experience spanning mechanical, electrical, software, and controls disciplines
* Proven ability to lead technical decision‐making in ambiguous, fast‐moving development environments
* Strong communication skills with the ability to influence across functions and seniority levels

Preferred Qualifications

* Experience with autonomous vehicles, mobile robotics, or industrial automation
* Familiarity with C++, Python, Git, DevOps, and Linux development environments
* Experience with model‐based design and code generation tools (e.g. Matlab/Simulink/Stateflow)
* Knowledge of functional safety standards and compliance processes
* Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (e.g. CAN, J1939, CANopen)
* Experience supporting globally distributed engineering teams and multi‐site programmes
* Occasional travel may be required (less than 10%)
