We are looking for a dedicated and passionate Consultant in Palliative Medicine to join our well-established and highly motivated Palliative Care Team in Saint Catherine's Hospice to cover a period of maternity leave.
This is an exciting post that will offer opportunities and experience of all aspects of Palliative Care. The post holder will join another Palliative Medicine Consultant with responsibility for the effective and appropriate medical care of patients in our 18 Specialist Palliative Care inpatient beds. The service also delivers consult support and advice to patients and families within York Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust (Scarborough Hospital), and consultant led support for Palliative Care community teams of Saint Catherine’s Hospice and East Riding Community Team.
The post holder will be based in Saint Catherines Hospice, Scarborough where you will have your own office with full IT facilities and administrative support. You will be working alongside the current Hospice medical team which includes a fellow Specialist Palliative Care Consultant, Specialty Registrar, FY2 trainee and Specialty Doctors.
We have close links with Hull and York Medical School and the successful applicant will be expected to actively participate in a broad range of teaching activities. Saint Catherines prides itself on being a research active hospice and involvement in audit and research activity will be part of the job role.
The overall clinical workload will be shared in a way that is flexible and best fits the skills and experience of the successful candidate as well as matching their working pattern.
Saint Catherine's is an 18 bedded unit providing specialist palliative care to a wide geographical area in North and East Yorkshire and as well as our established inpatient and community teams we have an active Wellbeing Centre which provides:

Saint Catherine's is the sole hospice for the area and is well supported by the community. It is staffed by a multi-professional team consisting of doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, social workers and chaplain. There are strong links with oncology, cardiology and neurology services and patients are eligible according to need rather than diagnosis.
If you have a passion for advancing palliative and end of life care and if you enjoy being part of a dynamic multidisciplinary team, this is the role for you.
