Role Purpose
We are seeking to appoint an ambitious, skilled, and passionate Second in Charge of Mathematics to support the leadership and continued development of a successful and forward-thinking Mathematics department. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced teacher looking to take the next step in their leadership journey within a supportive and high-expectations environment.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Head of Mathematics to drive high standards of teaching and learning, contribute to curriculum development, and support staff and students to achieve outstanding outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching and Learning
* Deliver high-quality Mathematics teaching across Key Stages, ensuring strong progress and positive outcomes for all learners
* Model excellent classroom practice and support colleagues to continually improve teaching and learning
* Use assessment data effectively to inform planning, intervention, and departmental strategies
Departmental Leadership
* Support the Head of Mathematics in the strategic leadership and day-to-day management of the department
* Contribute to curriculum design, sequencing, and assessment across all key stages
* Assist in monitoring standards through lesson observations, work scrutiny, and data analysis
* Support the induction, coaching, and professional development of staff within the department
Raising Achievement
* Play a key role in improving outcomes for all students, including disadvantaged learners and those with SEND
* Promote high expectations of behaviour, effort, and achievement in Mathematics
* Contribute to intervention strategies and enrichment opportunities to support student progress
Person Specification
Essential Criteria
* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
* A strong degree in Mathematics or a related subject
* Proven track record of successful Mathematics teaching
* Experience teaching across KS3 and KS4 (KS5 desirable)
* Excellent subject knowledge and passion for Mathematics education
* Strong interpersonal and organisational skills
Desirable Criteria
* Experience in a leadership or responsibility role within a Mathematics department
* Evidence of contributing to curriculum development or departmental improvement
* Experience supporting colleagues through coaching or mentoring
