SALARY: Up to £27,000 FTE

JOB TYPE: Fixed Term Contract – 3 months

HOURS: 18 hours per week for 36 weeks for the year

LOCATION: Stevenage

About the Role:

We are looking for a highly organised, innovative, team player who is motivated and committed to the success of students with SEND. If you can provide efficient and proactive support to inspire and engage our students leading to high retention and achievement, then you will be successful here at NHC. To contribute effectively to the management of the pastoral care provided within the Supported Studies (SEND) provision. You will utilise an effective range of tailored support strategies to enable all students to engage positively and safely in learning and enjoy an exceptional college experience.

About the Organisation:

The College operates across three main campuses in Stevenage and Hitchin, employing over 650 staff. With a turnover of £30m, the college provides learning opportunities to over 10,000 students each year from study programmes for 16-18 year olds and apprenticeships through to adult provision locally, regionally and nationally. We were judged Good by Ofsted at our last inspection in December 2023, with outstanding features.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Main Roles and Responsibilities

3. Uphold and promote positive behaviour for learning by attending to student concerns/issues swiftly and effectively.
4. Collaborate with the wider pastoral/management team to develop and implement effective and tailored support strategies for individual students.
5. Liaise with student support functions, external agencies and parents to help ensure that students make good or better progress.
6. Be available for students throughout the day, especially during unstructured times including break, lunch and morning/afternoon taxi duty. This may include running or coordinating extra curricula activities.
7. Write and maintain accurate records relating to the health, wellbeing and safety of students – according to their specific needs and in line with departmental systems and college protocols. This includes setting up and updating individual risk assessments, care plans and associated daily administration of medication forms, safety plans and Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans (PEEPs).
8. Provide occasional cover for the delivery or support of consistently good or better sessions, incorporating an effective range of learning activities, to ensure outstanding learning outcomes.
9. Comply with all aspects of the SEND Reforms including the implementation and monitoring of Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) targets and contribute to the EHCP annual review process.
10. Assist with personal care, aid mobility and administer medication, in line with individual needs and college protocols.
11. Adhere to confidentiality guidelines and all college policies including health and safety, equality and diversity, PREVENT and Safeguarding.
12. Undertake such other duties, as may be reasonably requested by the line manager, or any more senior manager.

General duties

14. To work in accordance with the Health & Safety at Work Act, ensuring the College is a safe environment for staff, students and visitors.
15. To promote with staff and students the importance of safeguarding the welfare of children and vulnerable adults they are responsible for and come into contact with.
16. To work at all times in accordance with North Hertfordshire College’s policies and procedures.
17. To carry out such duties as may be required from time to time by the college that are appropriate to the grade of the post
