The opportunity
Our client is currently seeking a highly skilled Senior Electrical, Control & Instrumentation (EC&I) Engineer to support a high-profile nuclear project based in Reading. This role is ideally suited to engineers with strong EC&I design experience within highly regulated industries such as nuclear, defence, or similar. Due to project sensitivities, candidates must hold at least SC clearance, with a preference for those who are DV cleared.
The role
This role will be based 4 days per week on-site at Reading, remainder remote from home other days (1).
Rate: £75.00 Ltd per hour Flexible (Open to Ltd company contractors & outside of IR35 due to the client being a SME)
Long Term Contract 12 months + (ongoing likely)
Hours: 40 hours per week
Security Clearance: SC Clearance or ability to get SC clearance (British passport holder)
Your duties and responsibilities will be
Deliver EC&I engineering design packages to a high technical standard and in line with project timescales.
Prepare and review designs including:
Control panel design
Wiring schematics and details
Variable Speed Drives (VSDs)
Motor integration and specifications
Cable calculations
Containment system design and layout
Ensure all EC&I designs meet required standards and comply with relevant industry regulations.
Engage with multi-disciplinary teams and stakeholders to deliver integrated design solutions.
Provide technical input and problem-solving during the design, installation, and commissioning phases.
(Optional but beneficial) Apply knowledge of Functional Safety (IEC 61508 / 61511) where applicable.You will have the following qualifications and experience
Proven experience as an EC&I Engineer within a highly regulated sector (nuclear, defence, energy, etc.).
Strong working knowledge of electrical design, control systems, and instrumentation.
Familiarity with control panel design, VSDs, and motor control.
Capable of producing detailed documentation including wiring diagrams, cable routing plans, and calculation packs.
Competent in relevant software tools (Amtech, or equivalent).
Knowledge of electrical containment systems and cable routing standards.
