As System Operator for NI, SONI operate the electricity transmission system to ensure that power can flow safely, securely and reliably from where it is generated to where it is needed in homes, farms, businesses, and public services across Northern Ireland. Their role in operating the electricity grid extends beyond the present and is growing in importance and as the Transmission System Operator, SONI also have the vital job of planning for Northern Ireland’s energy future, with a clear focus on collaborating closely with all stakeholders to ensure the needs of the Northern Ireland consumer are met. As part of the EirGrid Group, and with an annual turnover of c.£200m and 190 staff, SONI also operates the €7 Billion wholesale Single Electricity Market (SEM) on the island of Ireland through a contractual joint venture with its parent company. Operating as a trusted business partner to the Chief Executive and the senior leadership team the Director of Finance will lead the delivery of a range of initiatives to allow the company to do its business, both day-to-day, and critically to deliver on the company’s ambitious strategy. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing and reporting on all financial and legal matters of the company and overall management of SONI’s financial resources and capability. This includes the full range of financial activities such as planning, reporting, and control, as well as procurement, treasury, taxation and insurance and overseeing all governance, risk and legal services activities to ensure legal and regulatory compliance. This is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced senior finance professional with a track record of reporting to Executive or Board level in a complex business environment. You will be a robust people leader with proven experience of successfully implementing transformational change.
