Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Sustainability & Procurement Coordinator to join a leading UK food manufacturer. This is a pivotal role at the intersection of sustainability, procurement, and technical operation, ideal for someone who wants to make a tangible impact in a business committed to responsible sourcing, ethical practices, and continuous improvement.
You will play a key part in shaping and delivering the company’s sustainability strategy, driving compliance with evolving legislation, and embedding sustainable thinking across supply chains, packaging, and day-to-day operations.
The Role
Reporting to the Technical Manager, with a dotted line to the Procurement Manager, you’ll act as the internal sustainability champion working cross-functionally with Procurement, Technical, NPD, and Factory Operations teams. You’ll lead sustainability projects, liaise with suppliers and customers, and ensure all initiatives align with business goals and external standards.
Key Responsibilities
Sustainability Strategy & Compliance
* Develop and implement the business’s sustainability strategy, ensuring alignment with national targets and customer expectations.
* Monitor and report on environmental performance — including carbon footprint, waste, water, and energy usage.
* Stay informed of relevant legislation, certifications, and best practices, advising senior management on implications and opportunities.
* Manage packaging sustainability, ensuring supplier materials meet compliance and food safety standards.
Procurement & Supply Chain
* Embed sustainability into supplier selection, evaluation, and audit processes.
* Conduct supplier risk assessments and traceability checks to ensure ethical and environmental standards are met.
* Support the sourcing of packaging and raw materials, ensuring new developments meet sustainability objectives.
Operations & Continuous Improvement
* Collaborate with factory and technical teams to drive sustainability improvements in energy efficiency, waste reduction, and recycling.
* Identify cost-saving opportunities that also support environmental goals.
* Track and report sustainability KPIs, ensuring accountability across departments.
Customer & Stakeholder Engagement
* Act as a key contact for sustainability queries from customers and external partners.
* Prepare and present sustainability reports, certifications, and audit documentation.
* Represent the company at industry events, sustainability forums, and audits.
Education & Culture
* Promote sustainability awareness and engagement across the business.
* Deliver internal communications, workshops, and training to embed responsible practices in everyday decision-making.
About You
* Experience in a sustainability, procurement, or technical role within food manufacturing or FMCG.
* Knowledge of UK environmental legislation, sustainability standards, and reporting frameworks (e.g. Planet Mark, ISO 14001, B Corp desirable).
* Skilled in analysing environmental data and producing clear, actionable reports.
* Strong communication and influencing skills — comfortable engaging internal teams, suppliers, and customers.
* A practical, solutions-focused mindset with the ability to balance compliance, cost, and operational efficiency.
