The Environment Agency are fully committed to inclusivity and equal opportunities, offering flexible work arrangements for all our vacancies. Join us in a diverse environment where every voice is heard and valued.
Do you want to effectively regulate the energy sectors to create a better place? The UK’s strategy to deliver Net Zero is driving a transformation in the energy sectors as they are responsible for 24% of UK Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions. They will need to fully decarbonise by 2050 whilst doubling electricity production, and address the pressures of energy security while maximizing domestic sources of energy. Through effective regulation, we must ensure that energy sectors protect people and the environment from emissions, and mitigate and adapt to the impacts of climate change.
We’re recruiting a fixed‑term role, up to 2 years, for a candidate with experience of working in or regulating energy sectors, including various scales of combustion plant, waste incineration, and refineries.
Responsibilities
 * Provide expert support and technical leadership through advice, guidance, and training.
 * Develop strategy for our sectors and produce the tools to regulate, support development, and deliver environmental outcomes.
 * Commission and manage external research projects where needed.
 * Work with internal and external stakeholders such as Defra, DESNZ, internal operations teams, trade associations, and other key industry players.
 * Respond to incidents and provide business continuity support during an incident.
The Team
The Energy & COMAH team is part of the Energy and Manufacturing Industries Regulation Directorate. Our technical experts lead on the definition of standards for our sectors, providing strategic direction, tools in support regulation, guidance and training to deliver new duties, and environmental best practice.
Experience / Skills Required
 * Ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and actively encourage others to consider diversity issues.
 * Relevant technical and regulatory knowledge, and experience of the work area for the role, including control measures for emissions to air where relevant.
 * Ability to build and maintain good relationships with colleagues, operators, partner regulators, government, trade bodies and academia.
 * Work cooperatively as part of a team to achieve common goals.
