Band 6 Junior Sister / Charge Nurse

The post holder will be responsible for supporting the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse in providing effective nursing leadership supporting a team of nurses ensuring the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) code of conduct is at the forefront of the team's nursing care. In addition, the post holder will be required to work closely with the multi-disciplinary team in the provision of a high standard of individualized patient care, thus improving the patient experience. The position supports a clinical role in addition to assisting in the management of operational issues. The post will incorporate the provision of care to patients, their families and corers in accordance with the philosophy and standards of care within the clinical area; in line with Trust policies and procedures, ensuring that values and beliefs are upheld.


Job Summary

Additionally, you will demonstrate continuing professional development, reflecting individual needs, the needs of the team, and the needs of the organization.


Main duties of the job

You must have substantial experience at Band 5 in an NHS acute hospital setting and hold a recognised student supervisor and assessor qualification. Your experience must include coordinating an in‑patient ward throughout day shifts on Monday to Friday. ECG interpretation and arrhythmia management skills are a must, as is a current Intermediate Life Support certification. Demonstration of proven leadership and team‑player skills are essential as you will be required to assist the Band 7 with the management of the ward. You will be expected to provide supervision and team motivation to drive forward changes around Cardiology and cardio‑geriatric Services at the Great Western Hospital.

You should be able to demonstrate evidence that you are working to the full Band 5 job description. You should have the ability to work under pressure, to deadline, and to undertake significant additional management responsibility.

The position will be day shifts only, to predominantly cover Monday to Friday, however some weekend day shifts could be available.

Job Description


Job responsibilities

* Act as a clinical expert in their area of practice.
* Take charge in absence of Senior Sister/Charge Nurse.
* Participate in the delivery of care to ensure the individual needs of the patients are met.
* Promote the development, implementation and review of standards policies, procedures and clinical guidelines.
* Assist in effectively leading and motivating staff in the provision of care and future service development.
* Promote evidence based clinical practice and assist the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse in performance improvement within the unit.
* Act as a Link Nurse resource for a specified clinical area and disseminate information to the rest of the team.
* Act as a resource in nursing practice throughout the specialities.

Qualifications


Essential

* NMC 1st Level registration qualification
* A teaching qualification
* Evidence of post registration development
* Evidence of continuing professional development
* Current ILS Certificate


Desirable

* Leadership qualification


Experience and Skills


Essential

* Demonstrates significant cardiac experience, with a sound knowledge of reading ECGs
* Experience of co‑ordinating/being the nurse in charge of a ward during the day
* Significant post registration experience
* An understanding of the structure of patient flow, for the delivery of Community and social care services
* Recent acute medical experience


Desirable

* To have an awareness of up‑to‑date trust projects and issues
