What is the Role
Engineering graduates joining SSEN Transmission will be at the forefront of building a better world of energy for future generations.
Graduates will follow either a generalist or specialist pathway depending on your degree discipline, and career aspirations. Generalists will gain exposure across multiple departments throughout a 2-year programme, shaping the programme to suit your individual interests and career goals. Specialists will work with experts in their specialism, gaining exposure within a business area for the duration of their graduate programme which can last between 12 months and 2 years. Both pathways have the aim of providing experience that will lead to a substantive post.
Graduates will add value to a number of our teams which can include:
Asset Management: Our Asset Management Team provides guidance and information to those developing land or carrying out activities near our electricity transmission assets such as overhead lines and towers, underground cables, and substations. This is a Generalist Pathway (Perth) looking for degrees in: Engineering or Computer Science.
Control Centre: The Transmission Control Centre is at the heart of SSEN Transmission’s daily operations for the overall secure transmission of electrical energy and for the safety of SSE field engineers working on-site. The Transmission Control Centre is constantly balancing various key factors including the availability of electrical components found at over 150 substations expanding to over 200 substations by 2030, planned outages for repairs and maintenance, response to disasters and faults. Ensuring compliance with industry codes and licence conditions, carrying out studies and maintenance of Power System analysis software. Working closely with the GB System Operator. Being part of the Transmission Control Centre allows individuals to make a key difference in the operations of the entire electrical network as it continues to grow and become key to SSE and the wider UKs net-zero targets. This is a Specialist Pathway (Perth) looking for degrees in: Electrical Engineering.
Project Engineering: This multi-disciplined engineering team to help develop and deliver our project portfolio ranging in value from £10m to £1bn. By working collaboratively across multi-disciplined and diverse teams, and through innovative thinking our Graduates will support the delivery of new assets onto the Electricity Transmission Network, unlocking Scotland’s renewables potential and providing the network capacity required to help SSE and the UK meet its net-zero targets. This is a Generalist Pathway (Aberdeen, Glasgow, Inverness, Perth) looking for degrees in: Civil, Electrical Power, Electrical and Electronic, Electrical and Mechanical, Mechanical, & Materials Technology.
