Department: Children & Young People
Service: Education & Skills: Inclusion & Disadvantaged Children
Post Title: Outreach Officer
Salary: Grade 12, £39,186 to £41,418 per annum
Post status: Permanent
This summer, we have created a new Outreach Service which will support Schools and Settings to enable Children and Young People with additional needs to achieve their full educational potential.
The Outreach team has a pivotal role in the implementation and use of Bury’s Graduated Approach Toolkit.
The team will be working on a consultation basis with schools and settings as well as linking with parents.
We are looking to build a diverse team with a range of skills and expertise to best support schools and settings with the inclusion of children at SEN Support.
The team operates on a consultation, mentoring and training model.
The Outreach team includes a team manager, 1 senior officer, 6 outreach officers, 4 outreach assistants and is supported by health specialists.
With the changing nature of the SEND agenda, Outreach Team members will need to be flexible in their approach and have the ability to develop new areas of expertise as need arises.
We recognise the importance of staff well-being and offer regular formal supervision as well as access to ad hoc supervision. Team members will be offered ongoing training and development opportunities to enable the team to be responsive and current.
The Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff to share this commitment. Appointment is subject to a satisfactory disclosure at the appropriate level under the Disclosure and Barring Service.
The Council is currently committed to supporting employees to work with agility, where appropriate for the post and service requirements.
The Council is committed to ‘Bury being an equal society that recognises values and embraces all people, regardless of any difference, for the skills, abilities and experiences they bring into the workforce and the wider community.’ Therefore the Council will guarantee an interview for Disabled people, Looked after children/ Care Leavers, Armed forces personnel (including reservists and veterans) and Carers of adults or disabled children if they meet the essential criteria.
