Up and Under Ltd an RSK Group company are recruiting for an Assistant Financial Controller to join the team based in Crewe, UK. This is a full-time, permanent position.
Up and Under, established in 1987 and based in Crewe, UK, provides inspections, surveys and repair and maintenance services to a broad range of clients. It undertakes work on structures ranging from major UK national landmarks to minor roads, including highway bridges over the River Thames in Central London and the inspection and investigation of the Lovell Telescope at Jodrell Bank, as well as international projects.
The role will report directly to the Financial Controller and will occasionally work alongside the Office Administrator.
The purpose of the role is to support the Financial Controller in ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant financial management across the business. The role will play a key part in the preparation of financial reports, completion of month-end processes, and maintaining the integrity of accounting records. The postholder will also deputise for the Financial Controller when required.
Responsibilities:
* Prepare and present accurate, high-quality financial reports to support management decision-making.
* Review, investigate, and reconcile discrepancies or errors in financial records.
* Perform all aspects of the month-end close, including accruals, prepayments, reconciliations, and balance sheet schedules.
* Provide auditors with detailed policies, procedures, and regulatory compliance requirements.
* Assist management in monitoring budgets and managing departmental expenses.
* Accurately compile and support monthly payroll inputs.
Qualifications and Experience:
* Strong knowledge of double-entry accounting and financial reporting.
* Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, modelling, data analysis).
* Proven experience with month-end processes and production of management accounts.
* High attention to detail and accuracy, with the ability to meet strict deadlines.
* Strong communication skills, able to explain financial information clearly to non-finance colleagues.
* Proactive and adaptable, with the ability to work independently and take initiative
Salary and Benefits:
* £38K-£41k depending on experience
