The Kitchen Assistant Role
We are currently looking for a Kitchen Assistant to join our busy Kitchen team, supporting our Events Head Chef and functions team at the Leas Cliff Hall. You will help deliver the first-class food and hospitality that our customers expect.
Working in our Channel Suite, no two days are the same. This dedicated and dynamic function space hosts conferences, parties, weddings, wakes, and even exhibitions, all situated beneath Kent’s premier entertainment venue, The Leas Cliff Hall. The Channel Suite has been the setting for many treasured memories, with many more on the horizon, in which you could play a part of.
As a Kitchen Assistant, your role is vital to the smooth running of the kitchen operation, providing consistent support to the Events Head Chef and functions team.
This is a hands-on role where you’ll play an important part in delivering high-quality food and excellent service, while maintaining strong hygiene and health and safety standards.
We’re looking for someone who is positive, reliable, and hardworking, with a team-focused attitude and a willingness to learn and get stuck into a fast-paced environment.
Key responsibilities
1. Basic food preparation to including washing, peeling and preparing food items.
2. To maintain the standards of cleanliness of all materials passing through the kitchen in line with company policy. These areas of responsibility will include - Machinery; cooking equipment, crockery and cutlery, pots and pans, floors and tiles, refrigerators and storage areas.
3. Cleaning the kitchen areas and storing deliveries away correctly.
4. Operate and clean equipment correctly and safely.
5. Ensure work areas are kept clean, safe and tidy at all times, including all kitchen appliances, work surfaces, floors and walls.
6. To maintain a professional working relationship with the food service team.
7. Adhere to all company regulations in respect of Health and Safety, food hygiene, fire regulations, emergency procedures and COSHH regulations etc.
8. To ensure that you are correctly dressed, adhere to high personal hygiene standards.
9. Dispose of rubbish, as directed by the Events Head Chef and to maintain standards of cleanliness in these areas.
10. To comply with any reasonable request by the Events Head Chef, supervisor or Management.
11. Attend and complete all training scheduled by the Events Head Chef.
12. Unloading deliveries and organising the stores.
Your skills, qualities, and experience.
If you are able to demonstrate many of the essential criteria, we encourage you to apply, and welcome transferable skills from other industries or backgrounds. We can give experience of any desirable criteria but may also use them to decide between candidates for this role.
13. Have experience of working in the food service industry
14. Have the ability to remain flexible and calm whilst working under pressure within time constraints in a heated environment.

18. Be flexible and reliable with your working hours; varied hours will include evenings and weekends.
