The Cancer Research UK & UCL Cancer Trials Centre (CTC) is part of the Cancer Institute at University College London.
The CTC is responsible for the development and conduct of clinical trials to evaluate new approaches to the treatment of cancer and is a UKCRC Registered Clinical Trials Unit. It has a portfolio which includes multicentre phase III trials using survival, tumour response and quality of life as endpoints, as well as phase I and II trials, some with biological endpoints. The CTC also has an interest in screening studies. Staff collaborate with clinicians and research staff both in the UK and abroad. The CTC Director is Allan Hackshaw, Professor of Epidemiology & Medical Statistics at UCL.
The CTC is based in central London with excellent transport links. It offers a hybrid working model, requiring a minimum of 60% FTE office attendance. Staff receive extensive training opportunities and ongoing support for personal development and learning.
About the role
This post is in the Advanced Therapies group, which oversees one of the most comprehensive ATMP portfolios in Europe, primarily focused on Phase I, first‑in‑human CAR T‑cell trials.
The Senior Project Manager (SPM) will manage a portfolio of trials, ensuring they are conducted according to protocol, GCP, relevant regulations and planned timelines. The SPM has line‑management responsibility for Trial Managers and Data Managers and is expected to ensure that all team members are trained, supported, and empowered to carry out their roles effectively.
The SPM also works closely with the Senior Management Team to develop new trials, resolve issues in ongoing trials, prioritise and manage the workload, and continuously assess and improve team working practices.
* This post is a full‑time, open‑ended post, funded for 1 year in the first instance.
* Appointments are usually made at the beginning of the salary scale.
About you
The post requires considerable experience in conducting and managing several clinical interventional trials, including developing a project plan, protocols, case report forms and other trial documents, site set‑up, monitoring trial progress, database preparation for analysis and trial close‑down.
Experience with CTIMPs, supplied IMPs, trial costing, agreements, contracts and staff supervision is essential. Knowledge of cancer and ethical issues involved in clinical research is also required.
