Position Details

* Fixed salary of £51,602.00 (additional allowances may apply)
* Grade 9 (Spot)
* Full‑time, fixed‑term contract until August 2029
* Closing date: 4 January 2026
* UK and international travel may be required

Role Summary
* Work independently and as part of a team, with strong analytical and practical abilities.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong time‑management.
* Research to develop a national and international reputation through significant original research work and to design innovative underpinning technologies.
* Management and administration tasks may include enterprise, business engagement, public engagement and similar activities beneficial to the College and University.
* Deliver a high‑quality PhD thesis and contribute to the field of quantum technology.
Main Duties
* Conduct sustained research activity leading to a PhD thesis and other research outputs such as conference papers and presentations.
* Publish research that establishes a respected international reputation and/or designs innovative underpinning technologies.
* Provide internal advice on research and development.
* Referee and peer‑review academic journal articles.
* Participate in high‑value impact activities in knowledge transfer and enterprise, including business engagement and public engagement.
Person Specification
* At least one research output (publication paper, conference paper or presentation).
Research Requirements
* Develop a national reputation and an international profile through original research work.
* High level peer esteem evidenced by cultivating a reputation in the UK reflected in high quality outputs, a level of innovation, impact on subject and recognition.
* At least one peer‑reviewed research publication.
* Engage in knowledge transfer and enterprise of manifest benefit to the College and University.
