Skills, Knowledge, and Experience Needed
1. Leadership: Experienced Lead Software Engineer with significant knowledge of Software Engineering. Advocates for communities of practice, able to articulate their value, and experienced in building and leading self-sustaining professional communities.
2. Stakeholder Management: Excellent skills in leadership and stakeholder management, able to build relationships at all levels, negotiate, and influence at a senior level.
3. Professional Development: Demonstrates leadership by creating a culture that stays up to date with emerging trends and implements them.
4. Collaboration & Coaching: Works collaboratively to define and promote standards, and has experience in coaching, mentoring, peer reviews, and creating development opportunities.
5. Recruitment Strategy: Experience in designing and leading recruitment campaigns, utilizing community members to deliver successful campaigns.
Your Role
As a Head of Role for Software Engineering, you will be an expert and a role model in software craft. You will lead design, development, and support of software products, driving consistency, standards, pace, and quality. You will resolve technical blockers, promote re-use and collaboration, define strategy and standards for our Engineering community, and lead adoption of best practices. You will represent DWP and Engineering in the wider civil service and tech community. While you can get hands-on when needed, your primary focus will be to lead and set direction for engineers and teams.

Location: Join us in one of our digital hubs in Blackpool, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, or Sheffield, whichever is most convenient.
Hybrid Working: We enable flexible work with some time in the office and some at home.
Pay: Up to £89,995.
Pension: Civil service pension with employer contributions up to 28.97%, worth up to £22,521 annually.
Holidays: Starting at 26 days, rising to 31 days, plus up to 3 extra days on flexi-time and public holidays.
