The Role
As a Supportability Engineer, you’ll play a vital role in supporting one of the most complex and strategically important engineering programmes in the UK today. You’ll ensure the Royal Navy’s submarine fleet has accurate, assured and fully traceable technical and configuration information - information that directly supports operational availability, safety, and national security.
Day-to-day, you’ll provide support at the Waterfront and be responsible for design information management. Your key responsibilities will include:
1. Maintain accurate configuration data and datum pack records for all submarine-installed items in line with the Configuration Management Plan.
2. Maintain up-to-date records of submarine technical documentation to ensure full Quality Assurance standards are met.
3. Manage and maintain all Design Change Management documentation within the Submarine Definition Database.
4. Work as part of a specialist team, acting as a subject matter expert across Babcock, the Royal Navy, Ministry of Defence and industry partners.
5. Provide support at the Waterfront, ensuring design information is effectively controlled and communicated.
This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with 2 days in the office/onsite and 3 days working from home.
Essential experience of the Supportability Engineer:
6. Experience working with engineering documentation such as technical drawings and records.
7. Understanding of change management and the control of project or engineering documentation.
8. Ability to work independently, challenge existing processes, and make informed decisions with incomplete information.
9. Strong communication skills and confidence engaging with stakeholders at all levels.
Qualifications for the Supportability Engineer:
10. NVQ Level 3 or above in a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics discipline, with willingness to work towards Level 4 as part of continued professional development.
