About Us
Welcome to Easthorpe School, an independent specialist provision dedicated to supporting children and young people in the East Midlands. We cater to those living with their families, foster carers, or in residential children's homes.
Since opening our doors in November 2022, we are excited to expand our team to accommodate the growing number of pupils in our Lower School (ages 7-13). With class sizes capped at six pupils, each classroom is supported by a qualified teacher and up to two teaching assistants.
Our mission is to support pupils with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs (SEMH) and various diagnoses, including Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, and more. This is a fantastic opportunity for experienced teaching assistants to shape the future of our provision and enrich the lives of our pupils.
In this role, you will have the chance to develop your skills while focusing on areas that resonate with your interests, such as food hygiene, Forest School, sports, therapy, or emotional literacy.
Your Role and Responsibilities
* Mentor and support one pupil or a small group of no more than six.
* Assist the Classroom Teacher during lessons.
* Report on pupils' progress and collaborate with staff to meet their needs.
* Supervise pupils during non-classroom activities, including extracurriculars and school trips.
* Help with lesson planning and classroom preparation.
* Set and mark work as appropriate.
* Build positive relationships with pupils to foster engagement and learning.
Requirements
* Strong educational background, ideally to A-level, with at least GCSE Grade C or equivalent in English Language and Mathematics.
* Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant or in a similar role.
* Experience working with pupils with SEMH in an educational setting.
* Confidence to take on additional responsibilities in areas like Food Hygiene, Forest School, or School Yoga.
* Knowledge of behavior management techniques.
* Commitment to professional development and a willingness to learn.
* Willingness to undergo an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check prior to starting work.
What We Offer
* A workplace that prioritizes the emotional health and wellbeing of everyone, including you!
* Support for your professional development through a variety of opportunities.
* The chance to make a significant impact on the lives of vulnerable children who deserve high-quality education in a safe environment.
* A friendly, inclusive team passionate about improving pupil outcomes.
The successful candidate will need to complete an enhanced DBS Check, with the cost covered by Selwyn Hall School.
Easthorpe School is an equal opportunities employer and encourages applications from qualified candidates. We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults, and expect all staff to share this commitment.
