The Vale Youth Service is a part of the Learning and Skills Directorate of the Vale of Glamorgan Council. We support young people aged 11-25 through informal and non-formal educational opportunities to support them in achieving their full potential. About The Role
Pay Details: Youth Engagement Worker JNC Point 12 £30,745 per annum (pro rata) £15.97 p/h | Assistant Youth Engagement Worker JNC Point 9 £27,817 per annum (pro rata) £14.45 p/h
Hours of Work / Working Pattern: 3 hours per week, 40 weeks working 1 evening per week, occasional weekends and overnight residentials.
Main Place of Work: Office base at Civic Offices, Barry. With travel to our youth provisions located across the Vale of Glamorgan but you will be able to share transport, use Council’s pool cars and/or claim travel expenses.
Temporary Reason: Temporarily funded until 31st March 2028 as part of a pilot project.
We are looking for colleagues to join the youth service to expand our services to young people within youth clubs, outdoor education and the Duke of Edinburgh Award. We are looking for candidates with interests and skills in working within these areas, with specific interests and skills desirable as follows:
* Arts
* Outdoor Education such as bushcraft
* Sports
* Knowledge of issues affecting young people such as housing, money management and health & wellbeing.
Each position available is for 1 evening per week for 3 hours, working term-time plus the first week of the summer school holiday.
Managed by the Vale Youth Service and is situated in the Learning and Skills department.
The successful candidate will receive comprehensive CPD opportunities, development of new skills within the youth work sector, be part of a dynamic team that create positive influences within the local community and make a difference to young people’s lives. Candidates will be eligible to join the Teachers Pension Scheme.
About You
You will need:
* Prior experience of face-to-face youth work in a variety of settings.
* Be familiar with tools and techniques used for gathering information and feedback from young people.
* Experience of facilitating group sessions to lead on group activities and discussions is essential.
* Knowledge of evaluation tools to assess the impact of youth activities.
* Skills to create resources or materials that support youth activities and projects.
* Candidates should have a recognised qualification in Youth and Community Work minimum Level 3 (or working towards).
* The candidate should have the appropriate registration with the Education Workforce Council (EWC) as a Youth Support Worker or Youth Worker unless working towards a qualification.
* A valid UK driving license
These qualifications and experiences are important for ensuring that the youth worker are well-prepared to engage with young people effectively, address challenging behaviours, and contribute positively to their development and wellbeing.
