Talent Acquisition Specialist - DMG Media
The i Paper is appointing a new Head of Opinion & Insight to lead the strategic development and delivery of our commentary, analysis and expert perspectives.
This senior leadership position will be critical in growing new audiences for The i Paper, building on the rapid progress already made and establishing our reputation as the home of intelligent debate. This exciting opportunity will appeal to people with multiplatform experience, sharp headline skills and a wide commissioning range.
Key Responsibilities
* Shape and execute a bold multiplatform strategy for The i Paper’s Opinion & Insight output, positioning the brand as the leading destination for intelligent, agenda-setting debate across digital, print, video and emerging formats
* Commission and curate insightful, thought-provoking opinion, analysis and commentary that sparks conversation, deepens audience engagement, and drives subscriber growth across all platforms
* Lead editorial content planning and delivery for argument-led Opinion while developing an ambitious new strand of expert-led, insightful commentary that helps readers understand complex and consequential topics — from geopolitics to pensions
* Recruit, commission and retain a roster of high-profile, high-impact contributors who will play a key role in finding and growing new audiences
* Liaise with editors across the newsroom to develop in-house talent, fostering strong relationships with existing staff writers and content creators
* Lead the Opinion team with creativity and intellectual rigour, ensuring a pipeline of high-quality content that is highly read and highly engaged
* Pioneer new approaches to the creation of Opinion Video, seeking new framings to reach emerging audiences
* Work with colleagues in audience, product and marketing to maximise the impact of our Opinion and Insight content
Key Skills
* Creativity, vision, and a commitment to thoughtful and occasionally mischievous commissioning—underpinned by discipline, dedication and craft
* Senior editing experience with a demonstrable track record in opinion, commentary or features journalism
* Strong editorial judgment with a sharp eye for timely, intelligent arguments and analysis
* Experience building or growing editorial verticals or sections, including an understanding of Search, Video and growing audiences off-platform
* Able to work across a wide range of subjects — from politics and world affairs to social trends and pop culture moments — with intellectual confidence and editorial precision
* Confidence working under pressure, with the ability to turn around high-quality commentary at speed
* Comfortable working with analytics and liaising with colleagues to use data insights in commissioning
* Flexibility and desire to experiment with new Opinion formats including Audio and Video
* Strong people management skills, with the desire to develop and coach a talented team
