Overview
The Trust is seeking a consultant psychiatrist to join the Walton Community Mental Health Team (CMHT) based at Norris Green Hub, Falklands Approach, L11. The vacancy has arisen as a result of the previous substantive post holder retiring. This post is one of three CMHT general adult consultant psychiatrist posts (the other 2 are also 1 WTE each) within Norris Green hub.
Team Structure
The Walton catchment is part of a hub serving around 120,000 adults of working age in the North of Liverpool. The team includes:
* 1 whole‑time equivalent (WTE) consultant psychiatrist (this post)
* 1 WTE higher/core psychiatric trainee
* 0.5 WTE dedicated medical secretary (Band 4) and a full‑time Band 3 shared with the other 2 teams
* 1 Band 7 team leader
* 5 WTE community psychiatric nurses (Band 6 and Band 5)
* 7 WTE social workers shared between the 3 teams
* 1 WTE senior occupational therapist (Band 6) shared between the 3 teams
* 1 WTE psychologist
* 4 WTE supported time and recovery workers (Band 3) shared between the 3 teams
Key Responsibilities
* Clinical reviews and assessments, including new‑to‑service and very complex/high‑risk new‑to‑service assessments
* Supervise new to service assessments as required
* Manage team caseload
* Undertake referrals from inpatient services, A&E and the access team
* Engage with the Hub Lithium Clinic and Health & Wellbeing Clinic
* Teaching and training: teaching commitments of the post, participation in undergraduate and postgraduate clinical teaching, training of other disciplines, educational supervision of trainees, and continuing medical education
* Research: support the trust’s research strategy, contribute to the R&D department, and link with clinical research networks and universities as applicable
* Clinical governance & quality assurance: contribute to clinical governance, participate in clinical audit and local assurance processes, and take part in service/team evaluation and future service development planning
* Quality improvement: lead and manage a culture of continuous improvement, utilise a quality improvement methodology, empower the team to resolve local issues, and promote awareness of quality improvement work
* General duties: appraise and give professional supervision to junior medical staff, ensure junior staff are compliant with the New Deal and Working Time Directive, undertake administrative duties, record clinical activity and submit to the Information Department, participate in service and business planning, undertake annual appraisal for consultants, attend academic programmes, maintain professional registration with the GMC, hold MHA Section 12(2) approval, participate in job plan review, and support financial management of the service
* On‑call: included in the daily on‑call rota for North Liverpool, with a 1 % supplemental availability (Band B low‑frequency, low‑intensity), shared with approximately 18 FTE colleagues across adult, addictions and learning disability services
Additional Information
Flexible working requests will be considered for all roles.
Work programme: it is envisaged that the post holder will work 10 programmed activities over 5 days, with 7.5 devoted to direct clinical care and 2.5 to supporting professional activities (as per the Royal College of Psychiatrists recommendation).
On‑call and cover arrangements: the post holder will be included in the daily on‑call rota for North Liverpool, shared with approximately 18 FTE colleagues from adult, addictions and learning disability services.
