Paediatric Occupational Therapist
Location: Walsall (WS9)

Contract Type: Temp / Ad-hoc
Pay Rate: £30-£50
We are seeking an experienced Paediatric Occupational Therapist to support a 14‑year‑old with severe visual impairment, ASD, social communication difficulties, delayed social‑emotional development, and significant anxiety.
This role involves delivering specialist occupational therapy input within a school setting, including sensory work, functional assessment, and joint working with vision specialists. You will play a key role in helping the young person access learning and develop effective sensory regulation strategies.
Key Responsibilities
* Conduct an initial school visit (60 minutes) to observe the young person in class and meet with their LSA.
* Deliver sensory-based workshops (90 minutes each) tailored to the young person's needs.
* Complete joint assessments (90 minutes each) with the Qualified Teacher for Vision Impairment (QTVI).
* Provide clear, effective written reports with equipment and strategy recommendations following each assessment.
* Collaborate with school staff, parents, and multidisciplinary professionals to ensure consistent support.
* Maintain high‑quality clinical documentation in line with professional and safeguarding standards.
Requirements
* BSc/MSc in Occupational Therapy.
* HCPC registration (essential).
* Minimum 2 years' experience working with children and young people with SEND.
* Strong sensory integration knowledge and experience.
* Confident in assessment, report writing, and delivering workshops or training.
* Enhanced DBS on the Update Service.
* Professional indemnity and public liability insurance.
Desirable
* Membership of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists (RCOT).
* Experience working with visually impaired children or young people.
* Background in ASD, sensory processing, or anxiety‑related needs.
* Previous experience in educational or specialist school settings.
Additional Information
* Consultancy position with flexible scheduling.
* All safeguarding and vetting checks must be completed prior to starting.
* Travel to school sites within Walsall will be required.
