Job Summary
The Assistant Production Manager plays a key role in supporting the Executive Production Manager with the smooth and efficient running of daily production operations. This includes coordinating workflows, managing team leaders, and ensuring high-quality standards across sub‑assemblies and final assemblies. The role also supports health and safety compliance through regular inspections, training, and audits, while assisting with procurement and inventory control to maintain accurate stock levels and prevent delays. With a focus on leadership, efficiency, and continuous improvement, this position helps drive strong team performance and the overall success of the production department.
Responsibilities
* Production Operations: Assist the Executive Production Manager in planning and coordinating daily production workflows
* Directly manage the Sub assembly team leader and the Production line team leader.
* Responsible person for the overall quality of sub assemblies, final assemblies and the processes required for continued compliance
* Monitor production targets, resource allocation, and team performance to meet deadlines and output targets
* Liaise with departments such as quality, design, and purchasing to ensure efficient operations
* Maintain accurate records of production metrics, output, and downtime
* Health & Safety (H+S):
* Support and promote a strong safety culture across the production floor
* Ensure compliance with company H+S policies and all applicable legal regulations
* Conduct weekly H+S inspections and assist in risk assessments and incident investigations
* Assist in delivering safety training, enforce use of PPE, and ensure safety signage is maintained and up to date
* Support the Executive Production Manager with safety audits and help implement corrective actions where required
* Procurement & Inventory Support:
* Assist in tracking raw material and component usage to anticipate procurement needs
* Work with the Executive Production Manager and Purchasing assistant to ensure timely ordering and delivery of materials
* Assist in inventory control, including cycle counts and ensuring accuracy between physical and system stock
* Identify opportunities to reduce waste, costs, or delays related to material supply
* Support the development of production staff, fostering a high-performance culture
* Provide input on team performance and assist in managing day-to-day issues on the floor
What We’re Looking For
* Experience within a manufacturing environment
* Knowledge and understanding of Lean techniques is advantageous
* Proven track record within manufacturing management with the ability to direct and motivate others
* Adaptable to change and varying situations
* Computer literate with good numeric skills
