Client/child:
Isla 13 is an extremely bright, inquisitive, engaging, sociable, and bubbly young lady, she lives with her mummy and three siblings in Leyton; she is at the heart of a close-knit and supportive family. Isla has many hobbies and interests, such as fashion, shopping, trips to the park, and being with her family and friends! Isla has Athetoid cerebral palsy with profound physical impairment, and epilepsy (controlled with medication) she is a wheelchair user and communicates using Eye Gaze technology. Isla is on a blended food diet (orally) and with full support can drink from her bottle with a spout. Isla continues to make significant progress with her eye gaze and requires access to it at all times to communicate. We are looking for a therapy assistant or higher-level support worker with strong eye gaze experience to support Aya with her communication access outside of SALT sessions. Isla’s mother meets all of her care needs.
Overview of role:
While eye gaze is the primary focus, the therapy assistant/higher level support worker will focus on all of Isla’s therapy, implementing programs outlined by her treating therapy team (physio, SaLT, OT, etc.) Isla is a determined character and wants her Therapy Assistant / Senior Support Worker to continue her rehabilitation progress and support her overall developmental, independence, and self-help skills. Training is provided in all aspects of the role; therefore, you will be confident in your role and responsibilities.
Who this job would suit:
This would be a great opportunity for a bubbly, confident, and conscientious Therapy Student/experienced Support Worker who is happy to work in partnership with Isla’s Mum, MDT, and Case Management Team. For this role, you must have previous experience supporting a client who uses eye gaze communication technology.
