School Caretaker (Split Shift) - Long Term Temp to Perm
Hours: Monday to Friday
Morning: 7:00am – 8:15am
Afternoon: 3:15pm – 6:00pm
Reports to: Site Manager / School Business Manager
Job Purpose:
To ensure the school premises are clean, safe, secure, and well-maintained at the start and end of the school day. You will play a key role in supporting the daily operations of the school by opening and closing the site, performing basic maintenance, and maintaining a safe environment for pupils, staff, and visitors.
Key Responsibilities:
Site Opening (Morning Shift):
* Unlock all gates, doors, and buildings in time for the school day
* Carry out a visual inspection of the premises to ensure safety and cleanliness
* Check heating, lighting, and alarms are operational
* Clear any external debris from entrances and walkways
* Address any urgent issues or report them to the Site Manager
Site Closing (Afternoon Shift):
* Ensure all pupils, staff, and visitors have vacated the premises
* Lock doors, gates, windows, and set alarms
* Perform light cleaning and tidying of communal areas if required
* Carry out routine maintenance or minor repairs as instructed
* Monitor stock levels of cleaning supplies and consumables and report when replenishment is needed
* Liaise with external contractors if needed (under supervision of Site Manager)
Person Specification:
* Previous caretaking, site assistant, or maintenance experience (preferred)
* Reliable and punctual with a strong sense of responsibility
* Ability to work independently and follow a schedule
* Basic DIY/maintenance skills
* Good communication and interpersonal skills
* Awareness of health & safety and safeguarding responsibilities (training can be provided)
Additional Information:
* Enhanced DBS check required
* Some flexibility may be required for school events or holiday work
