Under supervision and according to Standard Operative Procedures, perform an extended range of technical support duties within the laboratory, rotating through all sections of Blood Sciences, predominantly supporting Biomedical Scientist staff within the team to facilitate optimal patient care.
Responsibilities include:
* Operating and maintaining analysers
* Performing some manual tests and providing support on benches
* Participating in the 24/7 shift rota
* Inputting accurate and timely patient and specimen data on to Trust computerised systems
* Safe disposal of contaminated materials, including sharps and confidential waste
* Sorting and identifying of specimens received, identifying and taking appropriate action in the event of any discrepancies
* Preparing an extended range of samples for testing by laboratory staff and providing support with laboratory tasks as required by BMS staff
* Preparing basic confirmatory/supplementary work to support BMS staff
* Undertaking agreed clinical and non-clinical tasks following training
* Participating in the training and support of less experienced members of staff
* Acting as the first contact point for routine daily maintenance problems on analysers
* Participating in appraisals and personal reviews and working to achieve personal objectives
