The Department of Naval Architecture, Ocean and Marine Engineering is a world-leader in research, focusing on Ship Design, Stability and Safety, Marine Hydrodynamics, Marine Structures, Ocean Engineering, Marine Engineering, Emerging Technologies, Offshore Renewable Energy, and Alternative Fuels. The department contributes significantly to policymaking in Marine Technology research at national, European, and international levels.
Research Project
MSRC seeks to employ a Research Associate for an EU-funded Horizon Europe project: SUSTAINABLE EMISSION ABATEMENT STRATEGIES & TECHNOLOGIES FOR ADVANCED REVOLUTION SHIPS “SEASTARS”. This project aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 30% and improve energy efficiency by 20% in vessel designs, utilizing technologies like hydrodynamic optimizations, advanced propulsion, alternative fuels, and carbon capture. The project uses a Model Based Systems Engineering approach to evaluate decarbonization strategies, enabling shipowners to upgrade fleets modularly and comply with evolving regulations.
Role and Responsibilities
* Join a multidisciplinary international team with partners across Europe.
* Support project coordination and technical execution under supervision.
* Collaborate with consortium partners to meet project objectives.
* Manage workload and ensure timely completion of activities.
* Contribute to research reports, publications, and dissemination activities.
* Assist in project management and stakeholder collaboration.
* Support knowledge exchange and possibly contribute to teaching activities.
Candidate Requirements
Applicants should hold a good honours degree and PhD in relevant engineering fields, demonstrate ability to produce high-quality research publications, and possess knowledge of research methods. Strong planning, teamwork, interpersonal, and communication skills are essential, with the ability to present complex information accessibly and publish in high-impact journals.
