Location
This role is available on a remote, hybrid, or office basis. Initially, all DBS employees' contracts are office-based at one of our two sites (Liverpool or Darlington). Employees can apply for remote or hybrid work from day one. If approved, the arrangement will start after six months for transfers from Home Office or after completing probation for new joiners. Requests will be considered based on business needs and role requirements. Informal hybrid working arrangements are also available from day one, subject to business needs and role requirements and will be discussed further following any job offer.
Job description
As a Management Accountant your role will be to prepare, develop and analyse financial information to enable DBS stakeholders and senior management to make well-informed decisions.
You will also support the Head of Management Accounts in establishing a controls-based environment, delivering on all matters of statutory and regulatory compliance, whilst ensuring the provision of accurate monthly management accounts.
* Drive continuous improvement in analysis, control and reporting by actively making recommendations and implementing change.
* Review and improve accuracy of source transactions to ensure the integrity of the management accounts.
* Preparation of the monthly management accounts pack to the defined service level and agreed timetable, including Profit and Loss accounts, Balance Sheets, variance analysis and commentaries.
* Delivery of analysis that ensures performance is understood and variances, issues and risks are properly and promptly brought to attention of senior stakeholders.
* Develop and build effective stakeholder relationships, to enhance finance knowledge that supports effective financial decision making, control and financial awareness across DBS.
* Conduct meetings with internal stakeholders to provide and explain relevant, often complex, financial information, to improve decision making, reporting and budgeting.
* Liaise with the Finance Business Partnering team and the wider business to produce accurate forecasts and budgets in line with the business plan.
* Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations, according to the finance reporting timetable, ensuring meaningful supporting documentation for all reconciling items is maintained.
* Reconciling items should have root cause analysis undertaken to ensure prompt resolution with underlying causes being actively addressed to prevent such reconciling items in the future.
* Assist in the preparation of accurate and timely information to support all external reporting, including external and internal audit, and regulatory returns.
* Proactively identify and recommend process and system improvements from both an efficiency and financial control perspective.
* Work with the Finance Business Partnering team to ensure full delivery against the budget and forecast submission requirements, in line with the agreed timetable and service level.
* Support the Finance Business Partnering team in financial planning activities and in the preparation of business cases.
* Deputise for the Head of Management Accounts when required.
* Undertake additional duties appropriate to the role and/or grade.

Essential Criteria:
Ability:
* Ability to communicate complex financial matters, including to a non-financial audience
* Proven ability to build effective relationships with colleagues across the organisation and other stakeholders
* Excellent attention to detail, analytical and problem-solving skills
* Effective communicator in person, in writing and in electronic media.
* Ability to work flexibly and respond positively to changing business needs
Experience:
* Experience within a Management Accountant role and ability to draw upon practicable experience of managing multiple deliverables to tight timescales whilst implementing financial controls
* Good people leadership and management skills
* Experience and good knowledge of latest accounting standards (IFRS experience and FReM knowledge preferred)
* Experience and knowledge of Finance systems, processes, and control environments
Technical:
* Must be a part or fully qualified member of a CCAB accounting body or CIMA or making progress towards the achievement of this.
Memberships
Must hold an active membership with a recognised CCAB accountancy body or CIMA
