Role Overview
This role is within Dr Gray’s Hospital and/or the community. It involves expanding geriatric services to meet the needs of an ageing population, developing networks of expertise across secondary and primary care, and providing collaborative care with GPs in the three community hospitals across Moray.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide inpatient care in Dr Gray’s Hospital, working with nursing, pharmacy, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and social work teams.
* Collaborate with GPs and GP practices for proactive, accessible, and rapid interventions to promote wellbeing and minimise unnecessary hospital admission.
* Manage and develop subspecialty areas of interest including Frailty at the Front Door, Acute Inpatient Care, Orthogeriatrics, Surgical Liaison, Movement Disorders, Community Hospital Rehabilitation, alternative to admission, Stroke Medicine and Community Care models.
* Engage in regular multidisciplinary meetings and pan‑Grampian linkages, including Movement Disorders, Stroke Medicine and potential Grampian‑wide models.
* Support out‑of‑hours work of the Frailty team and participate in the General Medicine on‑call rota if desired.
Working Hours and Flexibility
Flexible and less‑than‑full‑time working arrangements are available. The main inpatient base is in Ward 7 Dr Gray’s Hospital, supported five days a week by the multidisciplinary team. Out‑of‑hours support is provided by the on‑call medical team.
Qualifications and Registration
* Full registration with a licence to practise with the GMC is required.
* For doctors trained in the UK: evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or within 6 months of confirmed entry on the GMC Specialist Register.
* CESR or Portfolio Pathway doctors are eligible pending specialist registration.
* International recognised specialist qualification approved by GMC requires confirmed entry on the GMC Specialist Register.
* Locum Consultant posts (up to 12 months) available for candidates with appropriate specialist training not on the GMC Specialist Register.
Additional Information
Individuals covering the post within Aberdeen City Low‑Emission Zone will be responsible for all costs of entering.
