Role : Electrical Engineer (Shifts)
Location : Birmingham
Shift Pattern : 4 on / 4 off
Hours : 7am–7pm / 7pm–7am rotating
Purpose of the Role
The Electrical Engineer (Shifts) is responsible for delivering maintenance services .The role ensures all planned and reactive maintenance, testing, and compliance work is completed to HTM standards and contract requirements.
Key Responsibilities
* Complete planned preventive maintenance and breakdown / reactive tasks.
* Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with Client’s KPIs.
* Work from instructions, drawings, and specifications without supervision.
* Set up new work relevant to trade using appropriate tools and equipment.
* Enter and work in clinical areas when required (e.g., ITU, A&E, Operating Theatres, Mortuary).
Compliance & Safety
* Work to all regulations, including HTMs, CDM, Health & Safety, and company safety rules.
* Ensure immediate corrective action during emergencies to protect people, property, and services.
* Conduct Client Management Safety Visits and compliance audits.
* Complete monthly audits (minimum 10%) of estates team work.
* Inspect tools, access equipment, first aid equipment, and plant, ensuring safety and compliance.
* Manage absence, utilisation, and rota coverage.
* Validate timesheets, on-call logs, and leave requests.
* Maintain workshops and working areas in a safe and tidy condition.
* Provide support to stakeholders (UHB and BSMHFT) when instructed.
* Act as first-line management response to events across the QEHB estate.
Data, Systems & Reporting
* Use CAFM and digital tools to manage assigned work accurately.
* Provide plant data to support Condition Surveys and Lifecycle Plans.
* Assist with financial controls, budget tracking, stock takes, and asset list updates.
Mandatory
* Management / supervisory competency or minimum 5 years’ experience in NHS or critical infrastructure.
* Indentured apprenticeship or equivalent trade training.
* Healthcare or PFI environment experience.
* Relevant City & Guilds qualifications, including :

* 18th Edition Wiring Regulations
* Testing & Inspection
Desirable
* ONC, HNC, or HND
* HTM Authorised Person (MGPS, Ventilation, LV / HV)
* LV and / or HV experience
* Mechanical AP qualifications
* IPAF MEWP Training
* IOSH / NEBOSH
* IWFM Certification
* Degree / Masters in Engineering
