Job Summary
The famous fish and chips Trenchers Restaurant and takeaway is opening in Bowness on WIndermere in Spring 2026 and we are seeking an experienced and passionate Head Chef / kitchen manager to lead our culinary team. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, extensive culinary expertise, and a commitment to delivering exceptional dining experiences. In this role you will oversee all aspects of kitchen operations, ensuring high standards of food quality, safety, and presentation are maintained at all times. This role offers an exciting opportunity to shape the culinary direction of our establishment from opening and inspire a talented team of kitchen professionals.
The right candidate will commence employment before opening and work with the company exec chef to build and develop a team for the opening. During the training period you will be required to spend a week at our Whitby site to gain some knowledge on the brand and food, any expenses incurred for this will be covered by the company.
Duties
* Lead and supervise the kitchen team, fostering a positive and productive working environment
* Oversee food preparation and cooking processes to ensure consistency and excellence in every dish served
* Develop innovative menus that reflect current culinary trends while meeting customer preferences
* Maintain strict adherence to food safety regulations and hygiene standards
* Manage inventory, order supplies, and control food costs effectively
* Train and mentor junior staff, promoting professional development within the team
* Coordinate with front-of-house staff to ensure seamless service delivery
* Monitor kitchen operations during service hours to uphold quality standards and resolve any issues promptly
* Ensure all kitchen equipment is properly maintained and operated safely
Qualifications
* Proven supervising experience in a fast-paced culinary environment, preferably within a restaurant or hospitality setting
* Extensive food production, preparation, and cooking expertise with a strong understanding of diverse cuisines
* Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to manage and motivate a team effectively
* Solid background in food safety practices and hygiene standards
* Experience in menu development and food presentation techniques
* Excellent organisational skills with the ability to multitask under pressure
* Previous restaurant experience is highly desirable, along with serving knowledge in hospitality settings
* Strong communication skills to collaborate with team members and front-of-house staff effectively
