This is an exciting chance to play a key role in a major programme of fire‑safety improvements across City of York homes — work that directly improves resident safety and leaves a lasting impact on the city. Based in York, with all travel limited to the local area, you’ll be part of a team delivering our Fire Risk Assessment (FRA) Action Programme and wider building‑safety initiatives. The programme runs through to 2027–28, and this role has been created to bring in fresh technical capacity during this important period.
Responsibilities
In this role you will carry out and review fire risk assessments, support fire safety projects, and give practical advice to internal teams, contractors and partners. You will contribute to statutory fire safety compliance, quality assurance checks, evidence management and the delivery of actions arising from fire risk assessments.
Responsibilities include working in line with current fire safety legislation and guidance, including the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 (as amended), the Fire Safety Act 2021, and relevant British Standards and sector guidance. The work is split between office‑based tasks at Hazel Court and site visits across York, providing a varied and hands‑on workload.
You will collaborate closely with Building Services, Housing, and a range of technical specialists. You should be confident managing your own workload, adaptable to working in different environments, and able to communicate clearly with staff, residents and contractors.
Qualifications
A sound understanding of fire risk assessment principles, including PAS 79, and their application in a social housing environment is required.
You must be able to demonstrate competency to converse and provide advice and guidance to members of the public in spoken English to CEFR level C1: express yourself fluently and spontaneously.
