Job summary
To provide specialist dietetic input to the diabetes service and enable the team to meet the Diabetes Best Practice Tariff.
Provide highly specialist extended scope diabetes education and advice to children and their parents or carers.
To educate and train other healthcare workers and professionals to give evidence-based nutritional and diabetes education advice.
To provide a comprehensive dietetic service to children and young people with diabetes up to the age of 19 years.
Main duties of the job
1. Be an integral member of the Paediatric and Adolescent Diabetes multidisciplinary service team.
2. Provide dietetic input at multidisciplinary diabetes clinics in various hospital and community settings.
3. Educate and support children as in-patients with newly diagnosed and existing diabetes, in line with Best Practice Tariff (BPT), National Paediatric Diabetes Audit (NPDA), and NICE guidance.
4. Take responsibility for educating Paediatric and Adolescent Diabetes patients and their carers on dietary advice tailored to their lifestyles, including carbohydrate counting competency for pump training.
5. Participate in educational sessions for school staff supporting children with diabetes.
6. Contribute to education for other clinical staff within PAH NHS Trust.
7. Offer individual appointments for dietary assessments for all children with diabetes, adhering to BPT and NPDA standards.
