Overview of Project/Role
To work as a member of the Ultrasonic Team, undertaking all aspects of safety-critical Ultrasonic Rail Flaw Detection (URFD) and Rail Surface Crack Measurement (RSCM) testing procedures on LU track, as required by LU Safety Case. The job holder will work as a lone inspector or as part of a small team and provide mentoring to other team members.
Key Accountabilities
* Deliver weekly inspection work under the Ultrasonic Supervisor to meet the programme.
* Ensure all equipment is calibrated and fit for use at the start of each shift.
* Identify, record, and notify any defects found during URFD/RSCM inspections.
* Maintain a safe and efficient work site, including duties as Site Person in Charge (SPIC) or Protection master.
* Prepare equipment for the next shift or quarantine defective equipment after inspections.
* Collect all necessary information for work journals and ensure they are completed and signed.
* Collaborate with other departments and contractors as necessary.
* Assist in mentoring team members regarding training and competence assurance procedures.
* Hold and maintain a Department of Transport Driving License (Essential).
* Protection Works on Track during Engineering Hours (PWT-EH) (Desirable).
* Hold and maintain a Certificate and license in Non-Destructive Testing procedures (U1/2, U5, U7, U8, U10, U15, U16, U17 & U21) following recognised Ultrasonic Rail Flaw Detection training (Essential).
* Maintain Personal Track Safety (PTS) certification (Essential).
* Have knowledge of health and safety regulations in the railway environment.
* Understand continuous improvement practices.
* Be familiar with Non-Destructive Techniques (NDT) systems, standards, and construction techniques (Essential).

Experience
* Experience working in outdoor or tunnel track environments under extreme conditions (Essential).
* Experience working on LU infrastructure (Desirable).
* Experience as part of an on-site inspection team of Ultrasonic Inspectors or Technicians (Essential).
