Job Description
New Directions are currently recruiting a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teacher for a long‑term supply role in a supportive Special Educational Needs (SEN) setting in Leeds. This is an excellent opportunity for teachers who are passionate about inclusive education and want to make a meaningful, lasting impact on pupils with additional needs.
The role offers consistency, stability, and the chance to become an integral part of the school community, with potential for extension or permanency.
The SEN Setting
You may be working with pupils who have a range of needs, such as:
1. Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
2. Social, Emotional & Mental Health (SEMH) needs
3. Moderate to Severe Learning Difficulties (MLD/SLD)
4. ADHD or communication difficulties
Class sizes are small, and you will be supported by experienced Teaching Assistants and SEN professionals.
Key Responsibilities
5. Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons tailored to individual needs
6. Support pupils’ academic, social, and emotional development
7. Use positive behaviour management and trauma‑informed approaches
8. Work alongside support staff, SENCOs, and external professionals
9. Follow EHCPs and contribute to progress reviews
10. Maintain a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment
Essential Requirements
11. Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
12. Experience working with children or young people with SEN
13. Strong understanding of inclusive teaching strategies
14. Calm, resilient, and patient approach
15. Commitment to safeguarding and pupil wellbeing
16. Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
