Job Summary
Financial Accountant (Capital) – Full time (37.5 hours) based at Knowsley Community College, Knowsley Community College, Stockbridge Lane, Huyton, L36 3SD. The role is within the Finance Department of Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, a regional NHS trust serving over 600,000 people.
Main Duties
* Provide key financial accounting services for the Trust’s capital programme, including monitoring and assisting with planning.
* Maintain and update the Trust’s asset register and general ledger.
* Support the Assistant Director of Finance – Financial Services with internal and external reporting, monthly reporting, and statutory year‑end accounts.
* Assist with the year‑end external audit, providing required information.
* Maintain accurate records and reconciliations of assets under construction (AUC), ensuring proper categorisation on the asset register and balance sheet.
* Produce accurate capital monitoring reports for in‑year and year‑end purposes.
* Attend meetings with the Facilities Department and Estates Managers to improve capital planning and maximise VAT recovery.
* Assist in the production of statutory annual accounts, primarily relating to capital.
* Meet regularly with relevant Estates Managers to update the Assistant Director of Finance on capital cash‑flow issues.
* Perform administrative responsibilities related to internal and external audit requirements.
* Maintain professional registrations and adhere to relevant professional code of practice.
* Participate in annual performance development reviews and mandatory Trust training sessions.
* Manage the General Office teams in Southport and Ormskirk on a day‑to‑day basis, including staffing, training, leave, performance reviews, and sickness recording.
Qualifications
* CCAB qualification.
* Significant financial accounting experience.
* Supervisory experience.
* Experience of working in NHS finance.
* Experience of the Oracle General Ledger System including Business Intelligence.
* Experience of providing training and support to others in own specialist area.
* Evidence of planning and organising tasks to achieve a specific outcome within a specified timeframe independently.
* Experience of analysing, interpreting and presenting complex data and producing robust forecasts.
* Highly computer literate: MS Word, Excel, Access; ability to extract data, create and manipulate complex spreadsheets.
